Lacrima

An incredibly rare varietal grown only in small areas of the Marche region in Italy. Lacrima is Latin for ‘tears’ and the grape earns its name through the fact that when it is fully ripe, tiny drops of juice are exuded through the thin skin of the grape, like tears. The only registered DOC is Lacrima di Morro d’Alba, although the grape is growing in popularity with more Italian producers planting it every year.

The wines made from Lacrima show perfumed aromas of strawberry with lifted floral notes, and subtle darker fruit tones, fine tannins and a refreshing acidity. They are usually not intended to age.
