Winery Note: "Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc.  Made from estate grown vines, this medium bodied wine has a classic cassis aroma with an intensely juicy palate, great persistence of flavour and li—smacking acidity.  Although perfect for immediate enjoyment it will continue to evolve and reward for 8 – 10 years."

"This is baby Yarra Yering Dry Red #1 basically. It's from the vineyard directly adjacent to YY#1 and planted only one year after. It's 100% dry grown and in 2012 it really hit it's straps. Classically showing cassis and black currant with mulberry and a lovely, lively perfumed nose it leaps from the glass with medium-bodied charm. There is structure here albeit elegantly so with terrific tannins and mouth-watering acidity. And with a relatively low alcohol it makes for a very nice drink indeed." Chris Foster

Winery Note: An independantly owned and operated winery established in 1970 by the Church family and now proudly owned by This Century Pty Ltd.

Making wines from estate grown grapes planted on the north facing slopes of the Warramate Ranges overlooking the magnificent Yarra Valley.

Small quantities of premium quality handcrafted Riesling, Cabernet Merlot, Pinot Noir and Shiraz wines from vines that are now over 40 years old.

From the beginning, the vines have been ‘dry-grown’, without irrigation, and hand-pruned and hand harvested. The vineyard is managed with a strong emphasis on sustainability; mulching and green crop manures are standard practice and there is no irrigation. Organic methods are scientifically trialled and used wherever possible.

The wines were originally made by Jack Church. In 2000, his son David Church took over as chief winemaker having obtained a degree in Wine Science from Charles Sturt University.

In March 2011 Warramate was sold to  This Century Pty Ltd.  Followers of Yarra Valley Wines for many years, this independantly owned company have every intention of fully respecting the style of wines created by the Church family over the past 40 years.

The Warramate philosophy is to make the highest quality wines from excellent estate fruit in a sustainable manner.

James Halliday Wine Companion – A long-established and perfectly situated winery is reaping the full benefits of its 39-year- old vines. All the wines are well made, the Shiraz providing further proof (if such be needed) of the suitability of the variety to the region.

Max Allen – clean, fault free-wines provided in the setting of a comfortable log-cabin cellar door.

Jeremy Oliver – supple and finely balanced wines from a mature Yarra Valley vineyard.

Margaret Simons : The Age – At Warramate, yields are a fraction of the well pampered grapes elsewhere. One can taste sunshine, and struggle, and the smell of hot earth at the end of the day.

Stuart Gregor “Don’t Buy Wine Without Me” – Located in quite a spot between Yarra Yering and Coldstream Hills, Warramate has been producing wine at Gruyere for more than 30 years. The Shiraz is regularly very good, while the Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon certainly hold their own in esteemed company.

Bush Telegraph : ABC – Victoria’s Drought-proof Vineyard : If you were hoping to buy some land and set up a vineyard, one of the first things you would probably look into is how to get enough water to irrigate the vines. But the grapes at Warramate in the Yarra Valley haven’t had a drop of irrigation water touch their roots since they were planted 35 years ago. It’s all part of a plan to produce the best quality wines they possibly can, but the side benefit is a totally drought-proof property.
