Cortese

Cortese is a native Italian grape grown predominantly in the Piemonte region in Northern Italy. It is used to produce wines in Asti, Monferrato and Tortonesi, and also in Gavi, where the wines have achieved DOCG status. Known for its crisp flavours and moderate acidity, it is prized by local consumers who pair it with fresh seafood from the Ligurian coast.

Outside of Piemonte, Cortese is also grown in Lombardia and the Veneto regions, but nowhere else in any significant quantities. Cortese usually produces light, crisp whites with aromas of fresh lime and subtle herbal notes. A great wine to match with the delicate flavours of seafood – just like in Liguria!
