This little Mornington Pinot offers lively, bright fruit and a delicate and finessed, strawberry and raspberry lined finish. At this price it represents exceptional value-for-money and while its Gippsland counterpart may offer more lean complexity, this one is a winner with more florals, fruit plush-ness and downright drinkability. It’s certainly a drink now wine but careful cellaring for a few years will reward the more patient among you.

WINERY NOTES: VINTAGE CONDITIONS: The 2012 Vintage in Mornington was exceptional for Pinot Noir. Deep soils and fourteen year old vines enabled the fruit to cruise thru the growing season with no apparent stress. The vintage ended cool with some handy rain before the onset of ripening. VINEYARD: The vineyard is situated in the Mornigton Peninsula GI in between Hastings and Merricks Nth. The site is characterized by low rainfall and the soils are a lean sandy loam. These combinations enable concentration of fruit whilst still maintaining poise. The vineyard was shoot thinned and bunch thinned to a crop level of around 1.8 tonnes per acre. WINEMAKING: The fruit from this vineyard was split into two parcels, enabling picking in stages. The first parcel was harvested at 12.8 baume and the latter 13.3 baume. This enabled a spectrum of flavours. In the winery, the grapes we destemmed but not crushed and left to soak at ambient temperatures for 3 days before the onset of natural fermentation. The ferment is allowed to take its own course with no refrigeration used. Once fermentation is complete, the wine stays on skins for a further two weeks to soften. The wine is then lightly pressed and racked into second and third fill barriques. The wine is then lightly filtered and bottled without fining.
