Importer Note:

This vineyard carries the local nickname “Petit Bâtard” on account of its clay-rich soils and the depth, quality and texture of the wine it routinely delivers (sometimes reminding of the nearby Grand Cru, Bâtard Montrachet). The Bachelet brothers farm an 0.45 hectare parcel of 40 year old vines near the top of the slope (next door to Sauzet’s), under the Combettes 1er cru. The soils here are very stony and, as always with this terroir, there is a core of deep, satiny orchard fruit. The overall personality of the wine is nonetheless best described as “tightly wound” with mouth-watering freshness, genuine tension and a piercingly intense finish. This is at least the equal of last year’s superb release.

Details

“Everyone is on the lookout for Burgundy’s next white-wine star, … and brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, who created this property in 2005 from their father’s and uncle’s land, are quietly making a solid claim. Their low-key winery is in Dezizelès-Maranges, at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune, but their vineyards represent a great cross-section of Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault. Theirs is winemaking in the current, structure-minded style—lots of air for the juice, fermenting in larger barrels, finishing in steel. The wines have both character and precision, which is evident even in their village-level Puligny.” Jon Bonné,punchdrink.com

“Many of you will already be aware how much respect I have for Marc and Alec Bachelet who are doing wonderful things down in Dezize-lès-Maranges... What can I say? What more needs to be said? These guys are just making stupendous white Burgundy wines that rank alongside the best you can find… If you have not discovered the Bachelet brothers yet, it's time to do so.” Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
