48 bottles. The Clos de l’Arlot blanc comes from a pair of small, 50-year-old parcels on the steepest, rockiest section of this monopole vineyard—a plot with a greater proportion of limestone bedrock that is the hardest to cultivate. Our allocation reflects the tiny production. Barrel-fermented with just a hint of new oak, the style is markedly old school (in the best sense): pure and racy, with layers of mouth-watering fruit and a long, spicy, citrussy finish. Géraldine Godot thinks, with age, the wine takes on a Bâtard-Montrachet-like personality. Alongside Tim Atkin’s “mini-Corton-Charlemagne” comment, that makes two grand cru references for this year’s release.

“The red wines tend to get most of the attention at this AXA-owned property outside Nuits St Georges, but there are three impressive whites, too, of which this is the best. A blend of two parcels, it has a touch of Pinot Gris in the final blend. Rich and complex, it’s like a mini Corton-Charlemagne. 2016-24.” 95 points, Tim Atkin MW

“The 2013 Nuits St Georges Clos de l'Arlot Blanc has a sorbet-like freshness on the nose: orange blossom and a hint of dried quince. The palate is very fresh on the entry with good acidity, a little more race than the Gerbotte and it fans out with conviction on the finish with orange peel and apricot once again. This is a very generous Clos de l’ArlotBlanc with the depth and acidity to suggest it will age well, daring to outperform its red counterpart.” 91-93 points, Neal Martin, eRobertParker #216

Importer Note:

Domaine de l'Arlot, with its hillside vineyards and 19th century gardens, has what many consider to be the most beautiful estate in Burgundy. Since the late 1980’s this producer has also been responsible for some of the prettiest red Burgundies going around. The perfume, silkiness and flickering clarity of these wines is born of the l'Arlot vineyards, and the Prémeaux terroir in general. Prémeaux has always stood apart from the rest of Nuits-Saint-Georges and made wines that are altogether more fine and elegant than those produced further North, around the town itself. L'Arlot brings the finesse of this terroir to the fore with their approach to wine growing and elevage. Biodynamic farming, perfect, well-sorted fruit, gentle extraction and whole-bunch use all play their part. Every step from vineyard to bottle is tailored to underline purity and finesse.
