“Dark red-ruby. Musky aromas of redcurrant, iron and animal fur. The iron quality carries through on the ripe, pliant palate. Shows some slightly rustic smoke and leather nuances but then this wine is still a bit reduced. Finishes with rather suave tannins” - Stephen Tanzer

(87-90)/2020+ - “there is excellent freshness and verve to the beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess both good volume and richness before culminating in a firm, moderately rustic and slightly austere finale.” Note: 90% of the blend is from Pierre Virant with the remainder from Porroux and Les Cognées. - Burghound Issue # 61

Importer Note:

Domaine Lécheneaut is run by brothers Vincent and Philippe, who took over the family domaine after the death of their father, Fernand, in 1986.

Today the domaine comprises 10 hectares of vineyard located pre-dominantly in the Côte de Nuits. The brothers have modernised the domaine and gained an enviable reputation for many of their wines, including the Clos de la Roche, produced in miniscule quantities, which is said to be equal to Dujac and Rousseau. They are also known for their Nuits-Saint-Georges cuvées, which are considered amongst the finest produced.

The vineyards here have been run organically since 2000 with a view to improving overall vine health and quality. These results are now being seen in an increase in quality of the fruit.

The wines are produced with all the modern Burgundian techniques and equipment; very low yields, green-harvesting, leaf plucking, a sorting table, de-stemming; cold-soaking, saignées, temperature control during fermentation and some new oak. The élevage is longer than many domaines with 18 months spent in barrel. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
