Eden Valley did it tough over the growing season, as a result of the lack of rain and hot northerly winds. The yield consequently was down in the Monte vineyard - which was dry grown for 2016, but the variety is extremely drought tolerant and vines remained healthy despite the lower production. The wine a result is a bit more fruit forward, with less reductive notes and alpine herbs - which have bee notable on previous releases...

Stewed plum, orange peel, bay leaves, liqourice straps and amaro (vecchio amaro del capo - personal favourite) is pretty predominant on the nose.

Round and plush mouthfeel upfront, with the characters from the nose carrying through to the palate, to fine grained / tightly woven tannin centred in the middle of the tongue. The mulberry like acid lingers on the tongue, with slight flavours of dried garrigue herbs coming through. Probably a little more easily accessible to the 2015 - which was a great food match and benefited from a good decant. Winemaker - Steve Crawford
