I adore this Chenin Blanc. It's restrained in its fruit profile and powerful in it's structure. Dry, mineral and savoury as always, yet this vintage showws a little more complexity and depth. I hold this wine in very high regards. - Chris L

100% Chenin Blanc, grown on the calcareous soils in and around Brézé. More precisely, it comes from younger vines in the Clos de Guichaux and the Clos des Carmes, as well some old vines from a parcel in the Bas de Pentes terroir of Brézé. As any Saumurois will tell you these terroirs are considered to be some of the crown jewels of Saumur—particularly the Clos des Carmes which sits on the Brézé hills’ chalky mother rock, just below the Chateau de Brézé. With this in mind, perhaps the quality of this wine shouldn’t come as a surprise. This is simply a blinder. The vine plantings range from 1935-2012, so there’s plenty of old-vine stuffing going into this cuvée as well. All of Guiberteau’s whites are whole-bunch pressed and fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts. Historically this wine has been vinified entirely in tank although a parcel of 2017 was raised in large cask—broadening its textural range. It’s a wonderfully precise white, with aromatics of white fruit and pithy citrus, a gleaming texture and the kind of vibrant acidity and salty minerality that might suggest a cool vintage (it wasn't). - Importer Note
