You've got to wonder what the hell is going on in this vineyard. 900 vines at the top of the Clarendon ridge. Dry grown, own roots, east facing, red/gray sand over iron stone bedrock, planted by Ralph Wood in 1988. A spiritual place with views down across the vale to the cliffs of second valley and onto Kangaroo Island. Forget anything you ever knew about Grenache, don't get confused with Nebbiolo - who cares about the variety, this wine is place. - James Erskine

James Erskine is a man with genuine passion for his wines and while that may not be unique in the wine world, James is one of the more uniquely creative people in the wine world that you are ever likely to meet. The grapes for this wine come from the Wood Vineyard planted by Ralp Wood in 1988 along the Clarendon Ridge in South Australia skirting the boundary of Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale. All the vines are grown organically without the use of additional water and remain on their original root-stock planted on sandy red-grey over ironstone bedrock.
