Winery Note:

Cortese is an old and rare variety of unknown parentage, grown for centuries on and near the Ligurian coast to satisfy the cravings of the few sea-farers keen for wines to match their daily catch. Carved sequentially from a classic planting of 30 year old vines sitting high in the Monferrato hills of Piemonte, this wine has seen differential skin contact. 20% of the clusters from the south-west exposure of this ancient hillside were individually selected, harvested on September 12 and destemmed to whole berry. These were fermented cool then macerated on skins for 30 days. The remaining clusters were harvested September 14, pressed, and the juice slowly cold-fermented in stainless steel. The wines were re-united in late October before bottling. 100% Cortese. 150 cases produced.

Distributor Note:

Stemming from the middle name of our daughter, Linnaea Vineyards is the personal wine label of husband and wife team Michelle Edwards and Daniel Fischl. Michelle has spent close to 20 years making wine for cult and boutique wineries in Australia, Italy, France, Washington and California, while Daniel has spent 20 years researching grapes and as a viticultural consultant in Australia, China, Mexico, Israel, Italy, as well as on many of California`s greatest wine estates. We will focus on producing small batches of intelligent wines from some of the world`s most interesting wine regions.

Wine names are based upon the Linnaean Binomial System of genus (Linnaea) + species (Allora), created by naturalist and innovator Carl Linnaeus. Spoken with a flourish of the hand and a sense of delight, ``Allora!`` is every Italian`s all-encompassing versatile word, a turning point in all activities, equally comfortable enacting both attention and relaxation. Allora masterfully describes this most unusual and rare species of dry white wine, just as at home relaxing on a casual balcony delighting in the cool afternoon sea-breezes, as she is turning up the heat at a lively cocktail party.
