A very perfumed Pinot Noir from Geelong. The bright red fruit and dried spice are enticing for me. The palate is even more enticing with is sumptuous palate weight and long flavour that is very persistent. Can't go past this Pinot Noir for the price. - Chris L

Winery Note:

For us great wine is balanced wine:  wine where varietal fruit flavour is matched and cut by the key components of acid and tannin. Alternatively, if you like, where the flesh of fruit flavour envelopes the skeleton of structure.

Great wine is both elegant and powerful; the proverbial fist in a velvet glove sums it up pretty well. Wine should not be insipid or mean or fat or blousy. Freshness is key, wine as a complement to great food and the company it is consumed with. To make wine with the above qualities, the grapes must be of high quality, hence the focus on provenance… where the fruit is from.  The best match of grape variety to vineyard terroir available and the will to farm the vineyard with the best techniques is essential.

In the winery our philosophy, as played out in techniques used, is aimed at doing as little as possible to achieve wines true to their provenance. Wine making is a simple process; the aim is to harvest the fruit at the right time and not stuff it up. I could rave on about old world vs new world techniques, blah, blah, blah… but the truth is intuitive wine making is not driven by dogma. Taste it, think about it, act on it if and when required.

A quick word on blending (which sometimes we do and sometimes we don’t) it’s all about the end product. Is the sum greater than the individual components?  If so, label as such and get the right wine in the bottle.
