1.7g/litre dosage and 50% Reserve wine. Disgorged February 2017.

The beautifully textured and perfumed Blanc de Noirs comes from a site called Les Maillons in Barbonne-Fayel, near the town ofSézanne (in the Côte de Sézanne). Of Les Maillons 6 hectares, Collin farms 2.5, and is the only grower to work the soil here. The commute from the cellars by tractor takes a good 2 hours each way.  The Ulysse Collin parcel was originally planted with massale vines in 1971 on a slope of iron-rich clay. This soft clay soil dates from the “Campanien” geological age and is superb for Pinot Noir. The terroir here can ripen the grapes to north of 12% potential alcohol—something very rare in Champagne—yet also acts to conserve acidity and freshness thanks to its ventilated, east-facing exposure. Again, like Les Pierrières, 50% reserve wines this year and this was aged in three to six year old barrels (including some foudres) for the first 7 months of its life. Expect a textured Champagne of great finesse and precision with red and dark fruit notes and a perfumed close.

Importer Note:

“A visit with Olivier Collin is always a highlight of a trip to Champagne. Collin's boundless energy and enthusiasm comes through so clearly in the fine, artisan Champagnes. Virtually all of the emphasis is on the vineyards, while the cellar is simple and stripped down to the bare essentials. All of the wines are fermented and aged in neutral oak. Tasting Collin's wines from barrel is a treat, as the terroir signatures are clearly marked, while the precision in the wines is uncanny.” Antonio Galloni

“One of the newest stars in the Champagne firmament is Olivier Collin, in the village of Congy in the Coteaux du Morin, the area that lies between the Côte des Blancs and the Sézanne. An inquisitive winegrower, Collin gives credit to Anselme Selosse for inspiring him to become a Champenois vigneron. He describes his stage with Selosse in 2001 as “one of those encounters that changes your life,”
