Textures is Gautherot’s newest cuvee; a rare, 100% Pinot Blanc Champagne crafted from vines in the Fonnet vineyard (planted between 1995 and 2000). Gautherot describes it as his “easiest” wine, i.e. the one that is the easiest to drink young. There is more texture (hence the name), more fruit, and an easier-going refreshment than his Blanc d’Argile. There is ample intensity and a great deal of poise and interest on offer here as well—although, yes, it is certainly the least demanding and most gluggable Vouette wine. The grapes are fermented and raised in large Georgian amphora and used oak barrels before blending. They then spend roughly 18 months on lees in bottle. Future editions of this cuvée may well be aged entirely in the bulbous-shaped amphora (crafted by the last Georgian family specialising is this particular shape). These ‘jars’ afford Gautherot the kind of lees contact and minimal oxidation he is looking for. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind expression of the Côte des Bar. Today we offer our second, later disgorgement of the R15 and the October disgorgement of the new R16. Sadly, we only have 60 bottles of each. - Importer Note

The Aube Valley in southern Champagne is the least well-known region of Champagne. It barely features on wine maps of the region! This is mainly due to it's isolation from the rest of Champagne. In fact, the southern parts of the Aube, like the Cotes des Bar, are closer to Chablis in location, climate and soil structure than Epernay (the heart of Champagne).

Vouette et Sorbee's tiny 5.5 hectare estate is located in the Cotes des Bar of the Aube in Champagne. The soils here are dominated by Kimmeridgian limestone and the climate is a lot sunnier than the north of Champagne giving wines of depth, breadth and length. They are powerful and unique expressions that need to be considered, so please allow them to open up and serve in a regular wine glass, not a flute.
