Grenache is grown all over the world. Why? It is particularly suited to hot, dry climates, something the world is experiencing more these days. The variety, although widely planted, is often blended with other varieties, namely Syrah/Shiraz and Mourvedre/Mataro/Monastrell. Grenache is most famous in the stone-riddled French region of Chateauneuf du Pape. It produces ripe  and  sweet-fruited wines often displaying fruits in the blue spectrum  and a good lick of alcohol and glycerol.

Grenache is also known as Garnacha in Spain, Cannonau in Sardinia and Tocai Rosso in the Veneto.
